Waterside Walks Across Wales for Young Families
Walking with Water
Water is a precious resource that we’re all guilty of underappreciating. From that first refreshing sip of the day to an indulgent bath before bed, it’s a constant we often take for granted. So take a moment and think of its value next time the bathroom tap is gushing. The less water we use, the more there will be available for reservoirs, wetland habitats and, of course, for little ones to splash in!
Walking with Water is CCW’s initiative to foster a meaningful connection between people and the water we use, by inspiring them to explore the places water is sourced from – rivers, streams and reservoirs. Something we feel chimes perfectly with Wet Wednesdays push to get children outdoors and learning about their local environment.
Sounds like fun? Well, you can kick off your adventure by visiting walkingwithwater.org.uk. Here you’ll find a comprehensive directory of walking routes offered by water companies across England and Wales. So if it’s a nearby watery walk or some holiday inspiration, we’ve got you covered. Just dip into the site and browse the broad range of breath taking walks on offer.
Alongside the webpage we also have a fun activity booklet for young explorers which is stuffed with intriguing water-related facts.
There is a fun checklist of things you might see on a water walk, a space to draw your route and a home pledge to encourage responsible water use from an early age. It’s available from nature centres across England and Wales, and it’s also free to download from www.walkingwithwater.org.uk/
To help you plan your next 'Walking with Water' adventure, we have shared below a selection of walks that are perfect for young explorers. But before you set off, check the weather conditions, pack appropriate clothing, and bring refreshments and snacks for the kids
