The Summer Holidays are here, so make the most of the time with you little ones in the great outdoors before school starts this September. To help you have lots of fun with the kids this summer, we’ve come up with a little guide to all the fun things you can do together:

Have fun with the Kids this Summer...

1. Stargazing

Pick an evening where your kids can stay up late and see how many starts you can find & name! If you are unsure on constellations, you can double check online. Plus, if the whole family end up enjoying this activity you could look at getting a telescope to get a closer look!

2. Visit A Local Landmark

Summer is the best time of year to explore in the UK! Plus, many landmarks often allow free entry for kids over the summer season.

You could visit a museum, a local castle or even a simple walk to explore the area together.

Remember that British weather can be a bit unpredictable so remember to pack a waterproof jacket.

3. Go on a Puddle Walk!

This activity is always a popular one with the younger children, on a cooler summer day. Once we’ve had some rain, get your waterproof set and wellies on and head out on a walk.

The aim of the activity is to find as many puddles as you can. Then see who can jump in the most!

This activity can also be great for little ones that are learning counting number and improving their memory skills.

4. Have a Mini Sports Day

You can do this in your garden, or somewhere local where there is a large area of grass. Set up some mini tracks for your children to complete, you could even get creative and use some egg and spoons for the classic egg & spoon race, or you could bring a bucket and some tennis balls to have a game of ball toss! This can be great fun for all the family. Remember to take your rubbish home with you.

5. Camping in the Garden

You don’t need to visit a campsite to go camping! Simply put up a tent or get creative on a dry day and make your own tepee with blankets, and fill it cushions, fairy lights and toys! To make it even more fun, you could make a picnic for them to take to their new ‘campsite’.

6. Gardening with the Kids this Summer

Gardening has so many benefits for children, not only is it great fun but they are also learning so much in the process.

You could get a pack of seeds and plant them together and over the summer watch how your seeds grow into something amazing!

You can read more about gardening benefits in our latest blog here.

7. Go on a Scavenger Hunt!

Head to your garden, the local park, or woods, anywhere where your little ones will be able to find mini beasts or cool objects. You could split up into teams to make it a bit more competitive or you could all work together.

Simply come up with a list of things to find, this could be:

  • Worms or mini beasts
  • A funny shaped stone
  • A colourful flower
  • Different types of shells (If you are at the beach)

8. Have an Outdoor Painting Party

Firstly, you need to find a large canvas, this could be an unused garden wall or maybe even the patio stones in the garden.

On a cool day, get their waterproof dungarees on and let the messy play begin.

Using water based paint, your little ones can create beautiful art, and then at the end of the day they can wash it all down with the hose.

Alternatively if you do not have waterproof paint, you could even use mud or chunky chalk! As both will wash down easily when you are finished.

If you need any of the waterproof trousers or super light wellies to do some of these activities, check out our Sale to make sure you are fully prepared!
