Do you bring wellies or sun cream? Festival season is well underway, & we know that British weather can be a bit unpredictable! So, we’ve come up with our top tips on how to survive family friendly festivals…Whatever the weather!

1. CHECK THE WEATHER.

You’ve got your tent, torch, sleeping back and water, but you need to know whether to bring wellies or sun cream. By checking the weather, a couple days before you head to the festival, you will be able to check whether you’ll be wearing shorts or waterproof trousers!

2. PACK LIKE A PRO FOR FAMILY FRIENDLY FESTIVALS.

Now you know what the weather forecast will be, you can decide if you are bringing your denim dungarees or your waterproof ones! If you have a mix of sunshine & rain, we recommend packing summer clothes with a decent waterproof rain set, including some light-weight wellies.

From staying at festivals, we have found it cools down quickly at night so remember to pack a few extra layers for the evening, just in case!

Our top tip would be to make sure you pack everything in a waterproof bag just in case there is a torrential downpour.

3. STAY SUN SAFE.

If the weather has sunshine forecast for you, you want to be able to enjoy it without suffering from severe sun burn or worse! Check out: How to Protect Your Children During a Heatwave. It has plenty of advice which applies to adults as much as it does children.

Our top tips to maximising your safety during your sunny experience at family friendly festivals is to:

  • Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated!
  • Wear sun accessories (sunglasses and a sun hat)
  • Wear sunscreen which is factor 50+ with good UVA & UVB ratings.
  • Find shade under umbrellas, tents, trees & gazebos!

4. FIND THE PERFECT PITCH.

To get the BEST experience out of family friendly festivals, we recommend getting there in good time to secure a decent pitch. When a hot & sunny day is forecast, shade is ESSENTIAL!

Make a note of where the sun rises, this will help and if you find a spot next to some trees, there will likely be shade.

You can face your tent towards the breeze, this will help the air cool down your tent throughout the day.

If your festival experience is forecasting rain, higher ground is your best friend! Being at the bottom of the hill could result in you being stuck in a flood. Our top tip for having a perfect pitch would be to make note of landmarks or alternatively create a flag for your tent, this could save you many hours of searching for you tent.

5. TAKE FOOD & PLENTY OF WATER.

Whether you are going with adults or children, food & drinks are essential. Although most festivals have amazing food on offer, queues can often be long, especially against the elements of rain, wind, or heat.

We recommend taking appropriate snacks, food that does not have to be refrigerated and has a good use by date!

Remember to store your food in a waterproof bag or container to protect it against the unexpected downpours.

Also we recommend taking plenty of water, especially if it is going to be warm weather!
