5 Summer Rainy Day Activities for Kids
Summer rainy day activities are a must when you live in the UK. We want to help you embrace the elements and get outdoors whatever the weather this summer. Whether you’re on a staycation or at home. These 5 rainy day activities will be great fun for the whole family. Remember… there’s no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing!
1. Rainy Camping
Whatever the weather, camping can be a great experience for the whole family.

Why not venture out to try a rainy camping experience with your little ones. Make sure to bring your waterproofs along, towels, and some decent sleeping mattresses and sleeping bags to keep you warm overnight.
The sound of rain hitting the tent will leave your children in awe if they have not experienced it before.
If you do not want to travel very far, why not camp in the garden? If you’re a camping newbie, this is a great way to test out the camping experience whilst keeping close to home. Camping is a great option to bring the indoors, outdoors this summer with your children.
2. Jump in Puddles
The most obvious rainy-day activity, but the most fun! Get your wellies and waterproof rain gear on and go for a puddle walk.
You can make it a fun activity by seeing who can find the most puddles, or who can make the biggest splash when they jump in a puddle.

This activity can be great for little kids that are learning to count numbers and improve their memory skills. We would recommend a puddle suit for little kids under 3 years old and as they get older why not try a two-piece set. The separate jacket and dungarees are useful as you can use them separately, and they grow with your children.
3. Take a Road Trip
Whether you have a local road trip or decide to travel a fair distance, this is always fun for the children.

You could discover new places that you have not visited before or discuss with your children and let them choose somewhere to go.
You could plan ahead and bring along some food and drink to have a picnic in the car. Park up somewhere with a nice view and enjoy the sound of the rain on the car.
4. Visit the Beach
If you’re going to get wet, you may as well go all out and have a trip to the beach. The beach can be great fun in the rain! You can either leave your clothes and towel in the car, put on a wet suit and have a splash in the sea.
Or get fully kitted out in your wellies and rain gear, and have a fun day out. Build sandcastles, make sand angels and finish it off with some fish and chip or a car picnic.

5. Play Indoor Games
A summer rainy day doesn't always mean you have to go outdoors. It’s okay to spend time indoors on a rainy day. Whether you are having a duvet day watching films or want to have as much fun as possible.
There are lots of fun games you can play indoors. You could make a fort, play board games or have a game of charades. A fun game to play is the Alphabet game: you simply choose a category, e.g. animals, countries, food. You then go through the alphabet and chose something for each letter taking it in turns e.g. A – Apple, B – Banana and so on. You can make it more fun by giving each other a 10 second timer, and if you do not think of something in time, then you are out.

There are so many different games you could play. Whether its card games or a classic game of twister… or perhaps something hide and seek.
If the rain stops, you could even carry on your summer rainy day fun with hide and seek into the garden!
